Baldwin Vision Systems and AMS Spectral UV Showcase New XP Quatro Series™ LED Curing Technology and Debut Defender™ 100% Inspection Solution at virtual.drupa
/New Quatro solution provides extreme flexibility, reliability and print quality at industrial speeds
ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, USA – 20 April, 2021 – Baldwin Technology Company Inc. and its connected companies, AMS Spectral UV®, Baldwin Vision Systems and Ahlbrandt® will exhibit at the first ever virtual.drupa this week (20-23 April 2021), using the platform to launch its brand new LED curing solution, demonstrate its latest inspection system, and showcase a range of other cutting-edge technologies from its comprehensive portfolio.
On the opening day of this landmark virtual event, AMS Spectral UV unveils its new XP Quatro Series™ LED-UV Curing Module. This latest innovation offers a range of new capabilities to increase productivity, maximize output, and access curing at unbeatable speeds, harnessing double the power of standard LED curing solutions.
The recently launched Defender 100% Inspection solution by Baldwin Vision Systems will have its European show debut. This breakthrough suite of data-connected technologies, designed for wide web packaging substrates, are used to identify, track, and remove print defects. Empowered with valuable production data and detailed print quality reports, printers can improve their processes and put more work through the press.
Visitors to the Baldwin Technologies virtual booth can also discover a new Industry 4.0 cloud platform from Baldwin Intelligence Group. The new technology is designed for connecting and visualizing data from machines and devices in printing, packaging and converting in a way that supports advanced decision-making and improved process stability and comparison, regardless of the make and model of printing equipment deployed at a facility. The IoT (Internet of Things) platform, called AMP (Advanced Monitoring Platform), is available for a wide range of deployments at low cost, and comes included with the acquisition of any Baldwin Technology IoT-enabled product.
New XP Quatro Series™ Product Launch
Available via its dedicated division, AMS Spectral UV®, the new XP Quatro Series™ LED-UV Curing Module is designed to cure LED-formulated printing inks and coatings on sheetfed and web offset printing presses, or larger-format flexo presses and digital print engines. Utilizing numerous new market-leading features and patented technology, the XP Quatro Series™ LED-UV Curing Module provides unprecedented system flexibility and reliability. Hosting two large, high-performance LED UV arrays, the Quatro Series delivers double the available power of a standard LED solution at a lower cost than two individual lamps. These features now enable customers to integrate the technology into virtually any analog or digital printing press with ease, further increasing print quality while operating at top industrial speeds - driving increased productivity and profitability.
The new Baldwin Technologies XP Quatro Series™ LED-UV Curing Module features:
Cool Phase™ - Dual-pass, high-flow water-cooling system keeps the entire module at the optimal temperature while operating
Extendable Profile™ - Can be built to any length, providing seamless gap-free curing
Quick Mount™ - Universal T-slot mounting rails provide quick mounting to a variety of machinery, making units easy to service
Dura Connect™ - Industrial strength water and electrical connections for extreme product reliability and reduced downtime and associated costs
Chip Connect™ - Allows sectional control and the ability to easily upgrade or replace LED chips
Peak Optics™ - Allow for mounting the module at different distances from the substrate while still achieving a secure cure at the highest intensities available
The new XP Quatro Series™ LED-UV Curing Module supports a wide variety of substrates including micro-thin shrink films, corrugated materials, cardboard, paper and metal.
Carsten Barlebo, VP of International Sales at AMS Spectral UV, comments, “We are extremely excited to preview the XP Quatro Series at virtual.drupa – not only is it a game changing solution in its ability to cure the broadest range of inks and coatings at the highest production speeds, but it demonstrates the strength of R&D and spirit of innovation, as well as the commitment to market needs that underpins our business. Given the world economy today and the multiple challenges our customers face, we believe that our new solution will provide a much-needed competitive edge.”
Product Portfolio Tradeshow Premieres
In addition to the launch of the XP Quatro Series, two other Baldwin Technologies products will debut at virtual.drupa. Baldwin Vision Systems will highlight its new Defender™ suite of data-connected technologies, a seamless defect detection and tracking workflow. Visitors can witness the technology in action for the first time through dedicated demo sessions and gain further insight on how to deliver defect-free print quality in Baldwin Vision Systems virtual webinar. The components of the Defender suite include Defender™ 100% Inspection, Defender Data Central® and Defender Waste Manager™.
Defender 100% Inspection utilizes the industry’s most advanced defect detection algorithms to quickly classify each defect, driving better print quality decisions. Unique self-learning algorithms monitor the capabilities of the press and automatically apply optimum inspection tolerances to each job. Job settings can be quickly modified and saved. Manual fine-tuning makes it possible to reduce false or nuisance alarms by simply adjusting sensitivity levels for multiple defect types and different substrates. Modern, high efficiency, fan-cooled LED lighting delivers high intensity with greater image detail and low image noise.
Defender Data Central offers more intelligent print inspection by using the visual maps of each inspected roll. Quality control operators can analyze for defect distribution, count, and type. Out-of-tolerance areas are identified for removal, and job-based quality reports can be generated.
Defender Waste Manager can interface with rewinding, slitting, and sheeting equipment to automatically control when they stop/reject—allowing for fast and easy removal of defective material. Defect location data speeds up the converting process by allowing operators to fast-forward to the exact location of the defect within a roll.
This combination of technologies enables printers to easily deliver defect-free, perfect print quality to brand owners and print customers.
Richard Bennett, President of AMS Spectral UV, comments: “We are delighted that the industry can be reunited once again at virtual.drupa. While not together in a physical sense, we hope that the show’s schedule and unique features will allow for meaningful education and dialogue with the market, from which to share knowledge as well as demonstrate compelling technologies, such as our own XP Quatro Series, that will ultimately benefit the industry and its long-term success.”
